Maggie Dickinson, a junior at Whitefish Bay High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has announced her verbal commitment to Indiana University for 2028-29. She told SwimSwam:
“I am so excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Indiana University!!! IU has felt like family and I am honored to be able to join my sister in 2 years. Thank you Ray, Dana, and the IU coaches who have given me the chance to be a part of something special! Finally, this would not have been possible without my family, friends, teammates and coaches. Thanks to Chandler, Dave, Caleb, Cass, Greg and Tracy and all at SSTY for all of your hard work to get me here. GO HOOSIERS!”
Dickinson does her year-round swimming with Schroeder YMCA Swim Team and specializes mainly in backstroke, where she has attained a truly elite status, with times of 24.5/25.2/1:53.4 in the three distances. A member of the 2025-26 and 2026–27 USA Swimming National Junior Teams, she is our #14 pick on the Way Too Early list of top girls’ swimming recruits in the high school class of 2028.
In high school swimming, Dickinson won the 50 free (23.20) and 100 back (54.27) as a sophomore at the WIAA Girls Division 2 State Championship last fall. She also led off the winning 200 medley relay (24.72 backstroke) and anchored the winning 400 free relay (49.85).
At 2025 Winter Juniors West, Dickinson finished 16th in the 100 free, 3rd in the 100 back, and 2nd in the 200 back, taking home new PBs in the 50 free (22.65) and 100 back (52.56). At 2026 YMCA Short Course National Championships last March, she won the 100 free and 100/200 back, and she was runner-up in the 50 free. She left the meet with new lifetime bests in the 100 free (49.17) and 50 back (24.50).
Dickinson had a strong showing in long-course season, as well, with PBs in the 100 free (55.58), 50 back (28.43), and 200 back (2:11.14) at U.S. National Championships, and in the 50 free (26.26), 200 free (2:02.42), and 100 back (1:00.71) at U.S. Junior National Championships a week later.
Dickinson will join Avery Daigle, Clare Herfel, Jane Garlock, Kinley Baber, Salem Bahr, and Thea Bike in the Hoosiers’ class of 2032. She is already fast enough to score in the ‘A’ final of the200 back and the ‘B’ finas of the 100 back at the Big Ten Conference Championships.
