Pakistan Champions have been knocked out of the third season of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided not to give No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to the players picked for the tournament.
The decision has ended the Pakistan Champions’ WCL 2026 campaign even before participating this season. They were scheduled to open their campaign against Bangladesh Champions at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday, October 3.
However, the match was postponed, with WCL initially mentioning “technical reasons." Later, reports confirmed that the PCB had continued with its decision to deny NOCs to the Pakistani players to take part in the World Championship of Legends 2026.
Pakistan players already in UAE
Several Pakistan Champions players had already reached the UAE and were staying in Sharjah and Dubai. However, without the required NOCs, they could not play in the competition. Captain Shahid Afridi was also missing from the WCL captains’ activities and trophy unveiling.
Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was also reportedly absent, while some other squad members had already travelled to the UAE. The NOC issue is connected to the 2025 WCL drama. Actually, India Champions had refused to play Pakistan Champions twice during that edition.
After the controversy, the PCB decided against allowing former Pakistan players to participate in the tournament because of the current situation. Amid this, Sri Lanka ODI squad announced for Pakistan tri-series! Avishka Fernando, Sahan Arachchige recalled; Charith Asalanka dropped.
The decision means that fans will not get to see the highly anticipated clash between India Champions and Pakistan Champions in Dubai on October 10.
Pakistan Champions owner Kamil Khan had hoped that the PCB might change its decision. He revealed that the players had followed the required process while applying for NOCs and hoped for a positive outcome. But they have now accepted the board’s final decision.
The WCL 2026 is scheduled to run from October 3 to October 18 in the UAE, featuring India, Pakistan, Australia, England, South Africa, the West Indies, and Bangladesh. Now, Pakistan is not part of the league.
