Old School RuneScape finally adding Menaphos amid raft of new quests and content announced at RuneFest keynote

Old School RuneScape players will finally be able to set foot in Menaphos for the first time, as a new leg of the Kharidian questline was announced at RuneFest.

Menaphos was added to the game way back in 2005, but while its sister city Sophanem has been accessible all this time, Menaphos has remained just out of reach.

RuneScape 3 opened the doors to Menaphos back in 2017, offering players a veritable skillers' paradise, leading to a certain envy from OSRS players.

Completion of a new quest will be required to enter the new Imperial District of Menaphos, the home of the true Soul Altar, the game's first new Skilling Dungeon and one (1) additional Cactus Patch.

But Menaphos was far from the only announcement to come out of the OSRS keynote.

Things kicked off with more details on Raids IV, dubbed The Fractured Archive, set to be the hardest Raid in the game yet.

Many of the subsequent announcements focused heavily on questing, with further updates on the next Goblin quest, The Chosen Commander, which will conclude Zanik's story, and at long last, a conclusion to the Fairy questline with Fairy Tale III – Nexus of Power.

The Fairy questline has long since been completed in RuneScape, but has been left on a cliffhanger in OSRS since its inception in 2013, but Nexus of Power will provide a wholly original new story.

If all that wasn't enough, November will see the introduction of 'Quest Month,' which will see a collection of smaller quests added to the game every week throughout the month.

The new Dungeons of Gielinor update is set to introduce a huge number of new bosses to the game, ranging from introductory bosses balanced for new players, all the way up to those for seasoned veterans.

Hard modes for those beginner bosses, however, are expected to make even the simplest of fights a real challenge, similar to the bull boss Brutus.

A long-awaited Mining and Smithing rework was confirmed, with a pledge to return to the promises of Tutorial Island.

Mining and Smithing will now be more closely linked to your progression, with the weapons and armour you can craft being made available at a much lower level, to make it available at a time when it is appropriate for your combat level – no more buying your Rune armour, gang.

Hardcore Worlds, being introduced on 4th November, will provide the bravest – and indeed most competent – players a new way to enjoy the game.

These will be dedicated worlds with a separate economy, where every player has just one life available.

The nature of the game mode will lead to a wholly different economy where items can be valued significantly differently to their main world counterparts.

Progress from Hardcore Worlds will also transfer over to the main games if (when) you eventually die.

So, if you needed an excuse to continue grinding endlessly while you watch telly on your second monitor, I think this should just about be enough.
