Showers and storms are in the Chicago forecast for the next week, with some pockets of heavy rain and storms snarling the morning commute Wednesday.
The rainy weather pattern comes as a cold front lingers into Thursday.
“It’s going to keep things unsettled,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Iisha Scott said. “Yesterday, ahead of the front it was warm and muggy. Today, we’re on the north side,” with temperatures in the 60s to the north and 80s to the south.
Early Wednesday morning, Live Doppler 5 radar showed widespread rain across Chicago’s south and southwest suburbs, including Ottawa, Joliet, Kankakee and into northwest Indiana.
The rain is expected to last all day, Scott said, especially south of I-80.
“For the rest of today, we’ll keep those showers and storms going,” Scott said, with rain still falling south of the city through 1 p.m. Through the evening hours, anything that develops will be scattered, Scott said, but another round will develop overnight.
“Your morning commute Thursday will likely be a wet one as well,” Scott said, with showers and storms from about 4 a.m. onward, with localized flooding possible.
Thursday afternoon, the front will push farther to the south, leading to some dry time into Friday. Overnight into Saturday, another round of showers and storms is expected to move in, Scott said, with rain chances still in the forecast Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Temperatures, Scott said, will remain mostly in mid-70s to low 80s.
