**Warning: Contains major spoilers for the episode airing on Thursday 10 September, which is currently available on BBC iPlayer**
EastEnders aired a surprising twist encounter in the final scenes to show Zoe Slater alive.
The BBC One soap has been airing Michelle Ryan's final storyline as Zoe this week as Kat's eldest child sought out her grandfather Charlie Slater's old taxi cab and stole it, but amidst this, suffered a fall and hit her head on rubble.
Since returning home, Zoe brought the owner to the Vic's doorstep, ending in violence towards bystander Zack Hudson (James Farrar) - who Zoe later clashed with - and a frustrated Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) needing to bail out her daughter once more
In Thursday's episode, Kat's husband Alfie (Shane Richie) encouraged her to make amends with Zoe, who was also shown suffering from a headache.
Upstairs in the Vic, the pair did make amends, and Kat showed her love for Zoe, who affirmed her love for the mum she hasn't always had the best relationship with.
As Zoe remained visibly pained by her headache, Kat urged her to seek medical attention, but she declined and urged Kat not to worry, saying she would seek help in the morning if it continued. Kat then left a pained Zoe alone.
Meanwhile, following the disastrous wedding of Max Branning (Jake Wood) and Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), the newlyweds had a showdown after Max recovered from cardiac arrest and the bride learned Max had been cheating on her with Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy) during their engagement and prior to Max ending their short-lived marriage.
Cindy went on to expose Max and Priya's affair to the crowded Queen Vic, where fellow newlyweds Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) and Howie Danes (Delroy Atkinson) were celebrating their engagement, and to the disgust of Priya's children.
After exposing Max and drenching Priya in a drink, who then each fled, Cindy broke down but was comforted by former rival bride Kim and danced with the wedding party to Michael Kiwanuka's Cold Little Heart, made famous by the TV drama series Big Little Lies.
Outside, Max was reunited with the woman he really loves - and who loves him back - Linda Carter (Kellie Bright). Despite what happened, the two got passionate and snuck into the Vic barrel store.

Max followed and accosted Zoe in her bedroom, explaining his difficult love life with Cindy and Priya and his desire to keep his new romance with Linda a secret.
As Zoe mocked Max for his never-changing behaviour, he argued with her that she needed to keep quiet, but she shouted at him and weakly tried to push him to leave before he nudged her away, and she fell backwards onto her bed in continued pain from her head injury.
Zoe asked for Max's help, but thinking she was drunk, Max refused and left, slamming the door behind him.
Left alone with the door closed, Zoe faintly wailed for Kat: "I want my mum."
Hauntingly, the camera panned from outside her room as we heard her struggle and call for Kat.
At Peacock's Palace, Linda asked her mum, Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), if she had made the right call by being with Max, and while Elaine didn't give her blessing, she did make clear that she supported anything that made Linda happy and helped her find love after losing Mick Carter (Danny Dyer).

Kat then headed in and went to check on Zoe and was absolutely horrified to find her beloved daughter was dead. The episode concluded as Kat broke down at her earth-shattering discovery.
Next week promises hard-hitting scenes as the rest of Walford discovers Zoe has died - but with Max being the final person to see Zoe alive - what will be the consequences for Max and the Slaters now?
We'll have to wait and see how this impacts the drama of New Year's Day...
