EastEnders airs major twists for Max Branning, Cindy Beale and Linda Carter in early BBC iPlayer release

**Warning: Contains major spoilers for the episode airing on Wednesday 9 September, which is currently available on BBC iPlayer**

EastEnders has aired the aftermath of the disastrous wedding of Max Branning (Jake Wood) and Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins).

The BBC One soap ended Tuesday's episode with Max suffering a cardiac arrest as he appeared poised to confess his mistakes during his wedding speech after exchanging vows with Cindy.

This followed a close call of Max narrowly avoiding having his affair with Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy) exposed by Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) - the real person he is currently in love with and who recently professed her love for him.

In Wednesday's episode, Max's loved ones feared the worst as he was rushed to hospital following his collapse at the wedding venue.

Thankfully, doctors were able to ensure he was okay - as if it was ever in doubt for us, as we know he survives into 2027 thanks to that flash-forward episode back in January.

In hospital, it became clear that recent stress and unhealthy lifestyle choices contributed to the cardiac episode, while his family waited for news.

Meanwhile, back at Peacock's Palace, Linda had a heart-to-heart with her mum, Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), about everything Max had done.

Despite Elaine arguing that both Cindy and Linda could do better than Max, she could tell how Linda felt. It was then that Linda admitted this was the first time she had loved this deeply for someone since losing her true love, Mick Carter (Danny Dyer).

Back at the hospital, still in her wedding dress, Cindy was left alone with Max, and he began to confess that all was not okay between them and that he had made mistakes.

While Cindy attempted to convince Max that they were indeed right for each other despite their faults, Max admitted that he did not feel strongly enough for Cindy to be with her and that, despite having exchanged vows, they were over.

A furious Cindy began to grow upset and shouted at Max that he couldn't do this to her, but as Max entered into further distress, medical personnel removed her from the room for Max's own good.

Later, Linda arrived at the hospital and sat with Max, and he told her that he had ended things with Cindy. Max then professed that it was Linda whom he truly loved, despite having just married Cindy. It was then, despite Max asking about the mistakes he had made and that she had discovered, that Linda professed that she also loved Max. It seems Max and Linda are about to be a full-blown couple.

Finally, as the episode concluded, a devastated Cindy returned home in a cab and broke down in tears on the curb. Nearby, Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) rushed over to comfort her and, assuming that Cindy had discovered Max and Priya's affair, told her that Max wasn't worth crying over and said she had told Priya the same.

Cindy then realised that Max had indeed cheated on her after all and broke down in further tears as the episode closed...

Actress Michelle Collins has warned that "hell hath no fury " as a Cindy scorned, so expect revenge on the horizon.

In the meantime, the abrupt end to Max and Cindy's marriage so shortly after the wedding would suggest they will get an annulment, and Cindy is not the bride marrying Max on New Year's Day.

So it would seem that Linda is now the new frontrunner to marry Max on New Year's Day.

Will Linda marry Max on the 11th anniversary of her wedding to Mick? We'll have to wait and see how this all pans out...
