ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The construction season continues in the Rochester region. Here’s what to know about some projects this fall that may interrupt your commute.
Monroe Avenue in Brighton
Part of Monroe Avenue in Brighton will be closed during overnight hours starting on Tuesday, Sept. 8, for roadwork. The closure is happening from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. between Allen’s Creek Road and the ramp to I-590 North.
The roadwork is part of a $51.5 million project to repair and replace several bridges along I-590. The overnight closures are expected to continue through the morning of Saturday, Sept. 12. Drivers heading west can follow a detour using I-590 North, Highland Avenue, and I-590 South. Drivers heading east can follow a detour using Allen’s Creek Road and Clover Street.
Route 14 in Geneva
State Route 14 from Snell Road in Geneva to the Yates County line will be reduced to a single lane from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. Work is expected to be completed by Friday, Sept. 11. The project started on Monday, Aug. 24.
State Route 332 Canandaigua
State Route 332 from North Street to Lakeshore Drive in the City of Canandaigua will be reduced to a single lane from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday through Thursday. Work is expected to be done by Thursday, Sept. 24. The only time the lane won’t be reduced is during CMAC concert nights. The roadwork began on Monday, Aug. 24.
Elmwood Avenue in Brighton
A portion of Elmwood Avenue is down to one lane in each direction for bridge repairs. Crews are working between South Plymouth Avenue and Wilson Boulevard. It’s expected to last through Sept. 18.
State Route 33 in Chili and Gates
State Route 33 (Buffalo Road) between State Route 259 (Union Street) in Chili and Trabold Road in Gates will be reduced to a single lane. Here is the schedule for the lane reductions:

The Department of Transportation’s $51.5 million project to repair and replace bridges on I-590 in Brighton is now underway. You can see our reporting on the project here.
It’s expected to last through December 2028, with crews replacing bridges over Monroe Avenue built in the mid-1960s. The project also aims to provide access to the Rochester airport and the State Thruway.
During construction, one of the three lanes of I-590 will be closed in both directions. In addition, both the 590 South entrance ramp from Monroe Avenue and the 590 South exit ramp to Monroe Avenue will be closed.
There may also be temporary road and shoulder closures along Monroe Avenue, Allens Creek Road, and some ramps during the project. The DOT will keep drivers updated on closures with signs.
