Maisie Williams has discussed whether she'd be interested in reprising her fan-favourite Game of Thrones role as Arya Stark for a potential spin-off.
Back in 2024, George RR Martin sparked rumours of a spin-off project centred around Williams's character, writing on his blog at the time that the two of them "talked about… well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it. But it could be so much fun."
Since then, the rumour mill has continued to churn, with reports suggesting that Drops of God's Quoc Dang Tran could be heading up the writing of the series.
"I saw that, too," the star said of the rumours in an interview with The Guardian. "I was like, huh?"
When pressed on whether she'd be interested in returning to the character, she said: “I don’t know, really. She would have to be developed in some way because I feel like I’ve changed so much, and I feel like what people loved about Arya is that she was always a child doing things that were quite grown-up.”
An in-depth profile of Martin by The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year shared that an insider had revealed the project was in "very early development" at HBO, with it being set in the “Mediterranean-like land of Essos”.
Fans have been mixed on the possibility of an Arya spin-off. As a Radio Times opinion piece mapped out: "Shifting Arya to Essos risks turning a symbolic ending into a mere plot device: she didn’t leave Westeros because she had more enemies to kill; she left because she was walking away from the cycle of trauma and violence that shaped her.
"By sailing West, Arya escapes the cyclical politics of the Seven Kingdoms. A spin-off series fronted by the scrappy Stark would treat her closure as 'unfinished business' rather than growth and intent."

"So you really just have to give yourself that ability to try a lot of different things without committing to a show. That process of development works for us."
As for now, Williams can be seen in the forthcoming Practical Magic sequel opposite Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock and Joey King.
