The four first-half goals came off the sticks of four different Tar Heels. Grace Pottebaum opened the scoring less than four minutes into the game, and freshman Sofia Ferri doubled the score before the end of the first quarter. Coco Courtright and Charly Bruder joined the fun in the second to give UNC its 4-0 halftime edge.

Ferri was at it again just 1:12 into the second half, tapping in her second goal of the game off a slick penalty corner play by the Tar Heels.

Overall, UNC outshot Penn 18-4 and held a 14-1 edge in shots on goal. It was Carolina’s first shutout win since Oct. 12 of last year, a span of 12 games.

UNC is now 1-2 on the season and will face off against No. 2 Princeton in the second game of the Conference Crossover Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in Chapel Hill. The game will be televised on ACC Network.
