Common to headline Navy Piers free Chicago Live Festival

Chicago-born, award-winning artist Common will return home this month to headline Navy Pier’s Chicago Live Festival, organizers announced.

The Grammy, Emmy and Academy Award-winning artist will perform on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the event that is the largest free performing arts festival in the Midwest.

At the end of Common’s performance, Navy Pier’s award-winning fireworks show will light up the sky over the lakefront, festival organizers said.

“Chicago Live Festival is a celebration of the creativity, talent and spirit that make Chicago unlike any other city, and Common embodies all three,” said Marilynn Gardner, President and CEO of Navy Pier. “To welcome a Chicago artist of his extraordinary caliber to the People’s Pier and to make that experience free and accessible to everyone is exactly what this festival and Navy Pier are all about.”

Now in its sixth year, the Chicago Live Festival is set to take place Sept. 19 and 20 and will bring together more than 100 artists to give performances across five stages.

“For two days, artists and audiences from across our city will come together at the lakefront to discover something new, share the power of live performance and celebrate the remarkable creative community we are fortunate to call our own,” Gardner said.
