ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The region is cleaning up on Thursday after severe storms led to multiple tornado warnings, downed trees and power lines, flooded roads, large hail, and widespread power outages.
Wednesday evening’s storms led to tornado warnings for Monroe, Genesee, Orleans, Steuben, Seneca, and Livingston counties. The tornado watch lasted until 11 p.m. for central and Western New York. See our coverage of the storms here and photos from viewers here.
News10NBC is working to get official confirmation on whether any tornadoes touched down. A firefighter in Orleans County reported seeing a tornado near Shelby Center, and viewers in the county have been sending in photos of the supercell that may have produced a tornado. Over 9,000 homes or businesses are still without power across the region on Thursday morning. In total, over 38,000 customers lost power at one point across Western New York and the Finger Lakes, according to RG&E and NYSEG. Here are the numbers as of 4:45 a.m.:
