Search efforts expanded Sunday for an Illinois man reported missing in Great Smoky Mountains National Park after he was last seen at a visitor center in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, authorities said.
Marcin Bachleda-Blaszczak was reported missing Monday.
After the report was made, Bachleda-Blaszczak’s vehicle was located in the parking lot of the Sugarlands Visitor Center. Investigators believe his last known location was the visitor center’s parking lot on Saturday, Aug. 22.
Following his disappearance, a team of 57 park rangers and volunteers has been actively searching in and around the park. As the search widens, visitors may encounter search personnel wearing brightly colored shirts both on and off established trails, the National Park Service said.
Bachleda-Blaszczak is from southwest suburban Lockport, according to an online fundraiser.
He is 5 feet, 6 inches tall, approximately 170 pounds, and has brown hair and blue eyes.
