2026 SINGAPORE NATIONAL SWIMMING SC INVITATIONAL

August 29th – August 30th OCBC Aquatic Centre SCM (25m) Meet Central Results

The 2026 Singapore National Swimming Short Course Invitational wrapped up tonight at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, with the competition representing another racing opportunity ahead of this year’s Asian Games. That elite international affair sees action kick off on September 19th.

At this domestic meet, however, two national records bit the dust, both occurring on the men’s side.

First, 20-year-old Brandon Yap made it happen in the prelims of the 200m butterfly, with the Aquarian Aquatic School athlete firing off a lifetime best of 1:55.99 to claim the top seed.

Yap split 26.45/41.15/55.96/1:10.770/1:25.47/1:40.53/1:55.99 to establish the new benchmark, easily overtaking the former Singaporean record of 1:56.42 that Ong Jung Yi put on the books at the 2021 Singaporean Championships.

In the final, Yap added some time, but still handily defeated the field in 1:56.21. That gave him the gold by over eight seconds ahead of the competition.

The 200m fly marks Yap’s first individual Singaporean record.

The other record to bite the dust came at the hands of Julian Lee in the men’s 200m back.

18-year-old Lee stopped the clock at a mighty 1:55.01 as the sole swimmer to dip under 2:09 in the decisive victory.

Lee split 26.86/41.44/56.06/1:10.74/1:25.45/1:40.31/1:55.01 to erase the former Singaporean record of 1:56.70 Zackery Tay established during the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup.

This, too, checks in as Lee’s first Singapore individual record.
