SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - It was worth the wait for the Dos Pueblos High School football team.
Senior Chase Johnson scored three of his four touchdowns on Saturday as the Chargers defeated Buena 42-28 to complete a game that was suspended on Friday night when a light polo malfunctioned.
The Chargers led 21-14 on Friday at home when the game was halted with 6:08 remaining in the second quarter.
Both teams returned to action on Saturday but at San Marcos High School.
DP quickly extended their lead on a 10-yard touchdown run by Johnson as the Chargers went up 28-14 with 4:45 left in the half.
Just before halftime DP struck again. Grady Felix completed a 25 yard pass to senior Caysen Oliver inside the five yard line of Buena. Next play Felix passed to Johnson in the flat and he scored with 18 seconds left in the half and the Chargers were up 35-14.
After a brief five minute break the two teams began the second half.
Christopher Slate scored on a short touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to pull Buena within 35-21.
But Johnson came calling again this time a 32-yard touchdown run to seal the deal.
Buena scored a late touchdown in the final seconds but fell to 0-2 on the season.
Johnson totaled 104 rushing yards on just Saturday's portion of the game as DP improves to 1-1.
