WEBSTER, N.Y. — Monroe County approved tax breaks for a new apartment complex currently under construction in Webster.
The County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency, known as COMIDA, voted unanimously in favor of a request from Gerber Homes for tax breaks on its Shoecraft Road apartment complex. The developer says it needs these breaks to keep the development affordable for middle-market incomes.
“We want to build middle market units for the average person, not a high-end luxury product,” Gerber Homes Project Developer Nick Graziose said.
However, the town says the tax breaks for the Shoecraft Road apartments will cost taxpayers more than $2 million over 13 years. A town official raised concerns about the financial impact.
“Our concern really stems with the financial consequences that this proposed 13-year pilot could potentially have on the town and its taxpayers,” said Josh Artuso, Director of Community Development for the Town of Webster.
The approval of these tax incentives clears a significant hurdle for the project. It’s scheduled for completion in fall 2027 and will offer four multi-family apartment buildings totaling 40 units.
