There have so far been five series in the Yellowstone franchise, with two currently ongoing. However, despite, or perhaps because of, the might of the franchise and its creator Taylor Sheridan, there is one proposed series which will never see the light of day.
Back in 2022, Paramount announced at its Upfront presentation that it was developing a spinoff titled 6666, which would be set at the real-life ranch. This came after Jefferson White’s character, Jimmy Hurdstrom, was sent there in season 4.
The proposed spin-off would reportedly have been set when Comanches still ruled West Texas, and set on the ranch where the finest horses and livestock in the world are raised, and world-class cowboys are born and made.
However, speaking on the Rodeo Time podcast, Sheridan, who purchased the 6666 ranch along with a group of investors in 2020, confirmed that there's "never going to be" a 6666 spin-off.
"I would never fictionalise that ranch," he said. "People thought that that was going to be a thing, but I would never do that."
Sheridan explained: "So now I’m trivialising and fictionalising something where real people work, and they raise their families there, and I could never do that to them. I could never do that to the cowboys that dedicated themselves, and everybody that works on that ranch.
"I’m very protective of the Sixes, and it’s a big responsibility to be the person who has to protect that ranch, so I have to be very, very careful with it."
He also said that he's "actually got on my computer all the scenes of Jimmy at the 6666" from season 4 "pulled out and strung together, and it makes its own perfect little movie".
"You watch him go there as this misfit, and leave as a man and a respected cowboy," he said.
While fans may be sad not to see the 6666 series, there are still two ongoing Yellowstone spin-offs to keep them engaged.
One of these, Dutton Ranch, focuses on Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler's (Cole Hauser) life after the original series, while the other, Marshals, follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes).
Both shows will be returning for a season 2, with the latter's next run arriving in October.
The Yellowstone franchise is available to stream on Paramount+.
