The Diplomat season 4 release date confirmed with dramatic first-look teaser

Along with Slow Horses and The Pitt, The Diplomat is fast becoming one of those rare beasts - a streaming show with a regular, annual release schedule.

Ahead of its fourth season, the political drama has now confirmed that that run will continue, with the new batch of episodes releasing on 15 October 2026.

That means the new season will arrive almost exactly a year after the last, which arrived on Netflix on 16 October 2025.

The news was announced alongside the release of a first-look trailer, which you can watch right here.

The trailer sees Keri Russell's Kate telling her husband Hal (Rufus Sewell), now the Vice President of the United States, that she is not trying to get out of their marriage, but is attempting to get back into it.

She teases there will be "spicy" fights along the way, and later tells him that she takes him for "better or worse, worse and worse," before he asks: "Are you sure?"

Speaking with Tudum, showrunner Debora Cahn revealed that "this season is built on the foursome that is Kate, Hal, Grace, and Todd," with the latter two being the President and First Gentleman, played by Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford.

"They’re two couples strapped together in one car on a crumbling roller coaster," Cahn continued. "Each of them has a professional, public role that’s upending their ability to function as a married person. And there’s a change-partners thing that happens, where the growing bond between Grace and Hal creates a not-so-functional alliance between Kate and Todd."

The end of season 3 saw Todd and Kate starting to become wary of the relationship between Grace and Hal, as it was revealed that they had secretly stolen a Russian weapon for the US's means - potentially putting the UK in danger.

The Diplomat season 4 will stream on Netflix from 15 October 2026. You can sign up to Netflix from £5.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky TV and Virgin Media.
