Check your tickets: The $1.04 billion jackpot-winning Powerball ticket was sold at an Illinois gas station.
The massive jackpot from Wednesday’s drawing-which marks the eighth largest in Powerball history–was won on a single ticket sold at a Hy-Vee gas station on the Illinois-Missouri border at 310 N. 36th St. in Quincy. According to game officials, its the largest Powerball prize won so far this year.
“Congratulations to our newest Powerball jackpot winner in Illinois,” Stephen Durrell, Chair of the Powerball Product Group and Executive Director of the Kansas Lottery said in a release. “For more than three decades, Powerball has shown that a winning ticket can be sold anywhere the game is played, giving every $2 ticket the chance to change not only a winner’s life, but generations to come.”
The single winning ticket matched all six numbers in Wednesday’s drawing: 4, 26, 66, 67, 69, with a red Powerball of 9. The Power Play® multiplier was 2.
The lucky winner can now choose from either an annuitized price of $1.040 billion, or a lump-sum payment of $450.5 million before taxes. If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive the prize in 30 graduated payments over 29 years, officials said.
Wednesday’s drawing also marked the first jackpot run to include players from the United Kingdom.
“With UK players now participating, the expanded player base is expected to help accelerate jackpot growth and increase the potential for larger jackpots,” the release said.
Other tickets in Wednesday’s drawing also won big.
In Illinois, three other tickets matched four numbers and the Powerball to win $50,000 each. In Massachusetts, a Powerball ticket with an added Power Play matched all five white balls to win $2 million.
Million-dollar match five tickets were also sold in Arizona, Florida, California and North Carolina, Powerball said.
For the next Powerball drawing Saturday, the jackpot resets to $20 million. Tickets cost $2 per play, with live drawings every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 9:59 p.m. CT.
