The Bold and the Beautiful star Don Diamont recalled how his late father found solace in watching him on the soap operas while undergoing cancer treatment.
The 63-year-old actor, who plays Bill Spencer in the hit CBS soap, told People that his dad, Albert, and brother, Jack, passed away within a short span in his 20s.
“My dad never knew my kids and my wife,” Diamont told the outlet in a report published on Friday, October 2. “I was really glad that I had been on Y&R thankfully a couple of years and was well entrenched there.”
Diamont explained that seeing him on a popular soap opera while battling cancer brought his father a sense of comfort.
“I felt that I had job security, and my dad was at least there to see that,” Diamont said. “And particularly he was sick, so he would be home, and he could watch the show.”

View this post on InstagramThe soap star continued, “I know that gave him a lot of comfort to see, particularly for the entertainment business, that I was on solid ground, that I was in a pretty stable situation, and that gave him comfort.”
Diamont said his dad “would not just throw out praise easily,” so his approval meant a lot to him.
“As I recall, we were driving home from him having a radiation treatment that I took him to, and we’re talking about life, and he said, ‘When you started, I didn’t think you were very good,'” Diamont recalled. “He said, ‘But now I watch, and you’re really good. You’ve just really learned a lot.'”

Diamont made his soap opera debut on Days of Our Lives as Carlo Forenza in 1984. He then joined The Young and the Restless in 1985 as Brad Carlton. Diamont has been portraying Bill Spencer on The Bold and the Beautiful since 2009.
