A 14-year-old has died after a collision involving an e-moto and an SUV in suburban Wauconda Tuesday night.
According to Wauconda police, the teen was riding an e-moto in the 500 block of North Main Street just before 10 p.m. when a collision occurred with an SUV. Both the e-moto and SUV suffered “significant damage” in the crash, but circumstances of that collision are still under investigation.
The teen was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to fire officials.
The driver of the SUV and a passenger were uninjured, police said. Both are cooperating with the investigation into the incident.
No charges have been filed in the case, and an investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains underway.
“Our hearts are with the young man’s family, friends, classmates, and everyone affected by this unimaginable tragedy,” Chief John Combs said in a statement. “As e-motos and other similar electric vehicles become more common on our roadways, we urge parents and riders to understand their capabilities, follow traffic laws, wear proper safety equipment, and recognize the serious risks involved.”
