For many families, Friday means it's "pizza night" for dinner. What's your go-to?
For the Guns N' Roses fam, Friday, July 17 marks 33 years since someone quite literally delivered a pizza to them onstage during a show. It wasn't just any show, by the way, and the delivery person wasn't just any pizzaboy.
That year, the beloved hard rock band was on tour to support its albums Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II. The final show tour took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for a crowd of 80,000 people, Drum Magazine reports. The tour was one of the longest in rock history, taking more than two years to complete and consisting of 194 shows in 27 countries.
A highlight of the outfit's final night, on July 17, 1993, was when famed English drummer Cozy Powell apparently waltzed up onstage — dressed as a Domino’s pizza delivery man — danced with Axl Rose and then played bongos with drummer Matt Sorum on “Used To Love Her.”
To help place yourself at the scenes three decades ago, check out the YouTube clip below of Sorum’s solo after Rose, 64, introducing the band members during the Argentina show. Sorum, 65, had replaced drummer Steven Adler.
Powell, who died in 1998 at age 50, drummed with numerous artists during his reign, including Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, The Jeff Beck Group, Robert Plant, Brian May and more.
In other GNR news, none other than William Shatner is is releasing a metal album, believe it or not — and one song's title a direct reference to a classic by the band.
“There’s a popular song called ‘Patience,'” the Star Trek actor told TV Insider earlier this month. “So we wrote a song called ‘Impatience.'” He learned something new about what’s possible with the metal genre. Find out more here.
