Sarah McLachlan is one of the most influential female artists in modern music history. Not only did she record Billboard soft rock hits such as ”Angel,” “Adia,” and the Grammy-winning “Building a Mystery,” but founded the free Sarah McLachlan School of Music in Canada and built the iconic Lilith Fair music festival, featuring all female artists, in the late 1990s.

The beach is McLachlan’s happy place
McLachlan has always had a love for the beach, so it’s no surprise that she chose to spend her day off there. In 2025, she told Zoomer that she owns a summer home in Tofino, B.C., and she spends time running on the beach and surfing.
“There’s nothing more beautiful than just bobbing up and down out there and feeling incredibly small.” She shared. “There’s just a beautiful moment of surrender when you get on a wave. It’s this brief moment of flow state defying the laws of gravity. It’s a little bit terrifying at times. I don’t tend to go out when it’s really big anymore because I just don’t want to get hurt. But a three- or four-footer with a nice, clean face, and I’m just so happy.”
