Former Alabama infielder Jim Jarvis is up again with the Atlanta Braves, and this time it’s hard to see him going back to AAA. On Thursday, Jarvis hit his first big-league home run.

The Braves led the Pittsburgh Pirates in the top of the 4th inning of Thursday’s rubber game to decide the series. Jarvis made it a 5-2 game.

“Something you dream about,” Jarvis said postgame, per Chad Bishop of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Honestly, I’m not a power hitter, so it’s kind of shocking it happened this early, you know? An unreal amount of fun running around the bases, then coming in and getting the tomahawks and getting to dap everyone up.”

Jarvis had more to add to his highlight reel Thursday. Later in the game, he turned a double play to end the Pittsburgh threat in the bottom of the 7th inning.

The homer came on the 21st major league at-bat for Jarvis. In limited action, he’s now slashing .292/.320/.458 with 7 hits for 11 total bases over 24 at-bats, with 3 RBIs collected. Though Atlanta has the NL East division lead, shortstop has been a weakness in the lineup with Ha-seong Kim’s 2026 struggles and Jorge Mateo recently going cold at the plate, while utility player Mauricio Dubón has taken on a starting role in the outfield.

Originally from San Diego, Jarvis was a member of the Crimson Tide from 2020-23. He played in 196 games for Alabama, making 193 starts. He posted a .262 career batting average in college, with a .366 slugging percentage and .373 on-base percentage. Jarvis logged 180 career hits in college, including 22 doubles, 10 triples and 10 home runs, collecting 75 RBIs.

Jarvis was most productive as a senior. In 2023, he posted career highs in batting average (.273), slugging percentage (.418), doubles (10), triples (4), home runs (6), walks (33) and RBIs (30).

As a college fielder, Jarvis maintained a .965 fielding percentage with 28 errors over 4 years. He concluded with a .974 fielding percentage in 2023, making the SEC All-Defensive Team.

After college, and out of eligibility leverage, Jarvis was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft.

Jarvis was traded by the Tigers to the Braves on July 30, 2025 as part of a deadline deal for major-league reliever Rafael Montero.
