A dream-come-true moment for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as he received his debut cap for the senior India National Cricket Team for the second of the 5-match T20I series against England. He received cap No. 122 from Tilak Varma’s hand at the Old Trafford cricket ground in Manchester.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared a specially edited video to showcase the historic moment. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi received his cap with a huge applause from his teammates. While handing over the cap to the youngest member of the squad, Tilak Varma suggested that he continue the fearless brand of cricket he is known for.
“Congrats! First of all, this is a very proud moment for you and your family. They must be working very hard for you, as you said. So, I feel very proud. Another thing is that you have earned this cap with your talent and determination. Play fearless cricket, and nothing changes here. (0:23) Play with the right attitude and smile on your face,” Tilak Varma said.
“Make every Indian proud and the country proud. Congratulations, cap no. 122, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. All the best,” he added.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's heartfelt admission after receiving the cap
Sooryavanshi revealed that as soon as he confirmed his debut for the national cricket team, he reached out to his father to inform him about the very important day of his life. The emerging batter said that it is every cricketer’s dream to play for the national team at the highest level of the game.
“I feel very good. It was a dream for someone. For someone, playing in India is the most important thing. Anyone who starts playing international cricket and representing their country, it is a very proud moment. First of all, I told my father in the room,” the young opener said.
He stated that he first told his father about his international debut and then told his coach and mother, and everyone who stays by his side.
“I told him that he is staying with me. I told him first. I didn't talk to anyone else. I told my sir, Rumi sir, and my mom. I told everyone who stays with me. But first, I told my father. My father was happy and said, whatever you are doing, do it. There is no pressure. You just have to back your game. The dream came true," he added.
