ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Here’s your guide to what’s happening around the Rochester area on Friday and this weekend. You can see more upcoming events in our community calendar.

Memorial Art Gallery birthday celebration (Friday)

The Memorial Art Gallery on University Avenue is celebrating its 113th birthday on Friday night with tours of the museum, cake, and cocktails. It runs from 5 to 8 p.m.

    The cocktails will be at the Vanden Brul Pavilion, and there will be mini collection tours at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Visitors can also explore the new exhibit “Hugo McCloud: to everything there is a season.”

    The celebration is included in the price of admission, which is half-price on Oct. 9. You can get tickets here. Starting in early 2027, general admission at the Memorial Art Gallery will be free for everyone because the museum raised over $9 million for the initiative.

    Western Night at the Rochester Amerks game (Friday)

    The Rochester Amerks will host their first-ever Western Night on Friday when the team takes on the Syracuse Crunch. The game will feature western-themed entertainment, a pre-game happy hour, and a hobby horsing competition during the second intermission. In addition, the first 2,000 fans in attendance will get custom bandanas.

    Bristol Mountain Fall Festival (Saturday and Sunday)

    Bristol Mountain will be full of fall festivities on Saturday and Sunday, including a lift ride to see the fall foliage. There will also be live music, local arts vendors, and food trucks at the base of the summit.

    Gateways Music Festival (Friday through Monday)

    The Gateways Music Festival, the Eastman School of Music’s four-day celebration of Black artistry in classical music, kicks off on Friday.

    There will be performances at the Hatch Recital Hall within the Eastman School of Music and Kilbourn Hall within the Eastman Theatre, along with online performances. Organizers say the festival will include classical repertoire, gospel, jazz, and soul, along with storytelling.
