Just when you thought airfare was headed in only one direction (up, up and away), there’s finally some good news for travelers looking to stretch their vacation budgets in 2027.
According to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics data, airline fares jumped 23.4% year over year in August 2026. But despite the sticker shock, new data from Skyscanner suggests there are still plenty of places where Americans can score a better deal on flights.
In its newly released Travel Trends 2027 report, the global travel booking platform analyzed its flight-pricing data to identify the destinations experiencing the biggest year-over-year airfare decreases from the United States. And the results might surprise you.
Two European destinations saw flight prices fall by 25%, while several other cities across North America, South America, Asia and Australia experienced double-digit declines.
So, what’s behind the savings? According to Lourdes Losada, Director of the Americas at Skyscanner, there’s no single explanation.
“Flight prices can change based on a number of factors, including airline capacity, competition, demand, and route availability,” Losada explains. “What’s interesting about this year’s list is that we’re seeing lower fares across a wide range of destinations, from Europe and North America to Asia, Australia and South America.”
The findings come as affordability plays an increasingly important role in where Americans choose to vacation. According to Skyscanner’s survey of 2,000 U.S. travelers, 41% have swapped a planned destination for an alternative because favorable exchange rates made it cheaper to visit.
So, where can travelers potentially save the most on airfare? Here are the 10 destinations seeing the biggest price drops.

1. Toulouse, France — 25% Airfare Drop
Nicknamed La Ville Rose (the Pink City) for its terracotta architecture, Toulouse is a charming alternative to Paris, with lively cafés, picturesque squares and exceptional food.
