The Angels were defeated by a couple of familiar faces on Tuesday. Longtime L.A. outfielder Taylor Ward slugged a home run in his return to Angel Stadium. Former Angels farmhand Kyle Bradish, who came over to the Orioles in the Dylan Bundy trade, fired eight scoreless innings.
1. De La Cruz back Tuesday
The Reds are getting superstar shortstop Elly De La Cruz back in the lineup today, manager Terry Francona told reporters (h/t Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19). De La Cruz has missed a little over three weeks with a right hamstring strain. The 24-year-old was enjoying one of his best offensive seasons to date before going down. De La Cruz has slashed .280/.346/.509 over 257 plate appearances. He already has 12 home runs, well on his way toward topping his career high of 25, set in 2024. De La Cruz will provide a boost to an offense that ranks 28th in wRC+ this month.
2. Antonacci wins it for Chicago
The White Sox seemed headed for their fourth straight loss on Monday after closer Seranthony Dominguez coughed up a lead in the ninth inning. The club got two runners in scoring position with one out in the bottom of the frame, but stud closer Cade Smith struck out Jacob Gonzalez. That set the stage for rookie Sam Antonacci, who had given Chicago the lead in the seventh inning with a clutch two-out hit. The young outfielder smacked the first pitch he saw from Smith into center field for a game-winning single. Antonacci has a massive .996 OPS in June. After entering the month with one home run (an inside-the-parker), he’s gone deep three times in 17 June games.
3. Chapman blows first save
Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman was a perfect 14-for-14 on save chances heading into this week. He entered with a 2-0 lead on Monday against the Rockies. Colorado put together three straight singles, including a sac bunt attempt in which Boston failed to record an out. Jake McCarthy then cleared the bases with a game-winning triple. It was Chapman’s first blown save since July 2025. The Red Sox were 29-0 this season when leading after seven innings (h/t Tim Healey of the Boston Globe). The Red Sox are now tied for the fewest wins in the league with the Rockies and Giants.
