A popular item sold in the freezer section of grocery stores is being recalled because of “possible plastic pieces” inside the food.
Chicago-based Morningstar Farms, known for its wide variety of vegetarian and plant-based meat alternatives, is voluntarily recalling boxes of Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets and Hot and Spicy Sausage Patties because of plastic pieces in the food, a news release dated June 18. said. According to the release, the products were sold across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Costa Rica and are carried in grocery stores nationwide.
The Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets were sold in 10.5 ounce bags with UPC Code 000 28989 10110 5, with best if used by dates of July 7 and 8 of 2027. The sausage patties were sold in eight ounce bags, with a UPC Code of 000 28989 10094 8; and best if used by dates of July 5, 6 and 7 of 2027.
“No other Morningstar Farms brand products were affected by the recall,” the release said. No injuries were reported, and anyone who purchased the recalled products should discard them and contact the company for a full refund.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Morningstar Farms’ parent company Mars said the brand was recalling a limited number of the varieties because of “customer complaints.”
“At Morningstar Farms, protecting the safety and wellbeing of our consumers is our highest priority. As soon as we learned of a potential issue, we moved quickly to investigate and identify any foods produced that might be impacted,” the spokesperson said. “We have addressed the issue and enhanced our quality control procedures to prevent a similar situation occurring in the future.”
