Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's childhood coach, Manish Ojha, revealed that the young batter's boundary-hitting ability was built through six years of intense training in Patna. Ojha said Vaibhav batted for up to eight hours a day and faced nearly 100 overs daily to develop technique, timing, and muscle memory.
After helping Rajasthan Royals reach the IPL 2026 playoffs, including matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator and Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2, Vaibhav joined the India A squad for the Sri Lanka tour. He also earned him a maiden call-up to the senior team for the T20I tours of Ireland and England.
Speaking to PTI, Manish Ojha revealed the intense workload Vaibhav Sooryavanshi handled after switching to hard-ball cricket. Ojha estimated that Vaibhav faced more than 600 balls a day through net sessions, throwdowns, and bowling-machine practice.
"See, we don't count the balls, how many balls he played, but I will give you a minimum estimate, that he played more than 600 balls," Ojha told PTI. "It included deliveries during net sessions, the throw downs and sometimes, he used to face the bowling machine. This practice used to start from 7.30 am, and used to go on till 4 pm."

— Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) June 14, 2026I Used to Give Throwdowns All by Myself- Manish Ojha on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Rise
Manish Ojha stated that his academy managed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's heavy training workload. He said that the coaching staff worked in shifts to keep the sessions going, with coaches, support staff, and academy bowlers sharing the responsibility of delivering hundreds of balls each day.
"I'll tell you how. Around 200-300 balls, I used to give throwdowns all by myself. And when I got tired, there were other support staff, they used to help me. And when they got tired, there were bowlers from our academy, they used to help them. And sometimes even they got exhausted and if there was time still left, they used to make 2-3 groups, and whatever was told to them, they used to bowl."
In the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Vaibhav smashed 97 runs off just 29 balls. His innings included 12 sixes, the most hit by any batter in a single IPL playoff match.
Vaibhav scored 96 runs off 47 balls against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 and finished the season as the leading run-scorer with 776 runs in 16 matches. He also became the first teenager to score more than 600 runs in a professional T20 tournament.
A Dedicated Resource Person Was Working With Him - Manish Ojha on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Development
Manish Ojha credited Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's clean bat swing and strong follow-through to years of disciplined practice and technical training. He said that repeated drills, combined with proper coaching and attention to technique, helped Vaibhav develop the skills that are now visible in his batting.
“So this practice, which Vaibhav did, he did it for a long time, and you are doing the same thing, you are doing it again and again, so your skill set is good, and plus, you are focusing on it, a dedicated resource person, is working with you, and you are following the right technical parameters, so it gives you a positive output, which is happening with Vaibhav.”
Vaibhav also became the first batter in T20 history to score more than 500 runs in the powerplay during a single season. The Rajasthan Royals star also reached 1,000 IPL runs in just 440 balls, the fastest any player has reached the milestone in terms of deliveries faced.
