Pop Star Makes Streaming History with Record-Breaking Third Album Just One Day After Release

At only 23, singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo is no stranger to breaking records, and she's adding even more to her long list of accomplishments.

Her third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, was released on Friday, June 12th 2026 and is already absolutely obliterating streaming records across multiple major platforms.

Spotify announced via social media that the 13-track record by Rodrigo became the most-streamed album in 2026 in a single day so far by a female artist, in addition to it landing the musician as the youngest female artist ever to hit number one on the Spotify Top Artist's Chart. Over on Amazon Music, the album delivered the platform's largest streaming debut for 24 hours globally for any album on the platform in 2026. And on iTunes, the album currently sits at No. 1 on the iTunes Top Albums chart.

you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love (stylized in all lowercase) is Rodrigo's first album in three years. Her second studio album, Guts, was released in 2023. Rodrigo has said that the inspiration for the album came from her love of "sad love songs" and the "undercurrent of fear or longing" that can come with being in love.

It's also driven from Rodrigo spending time in London, and she's called the work her "most experimental" yet. Stylistically, her first two records were much more pop-punk, with her third taking on a more indie and ballad heavy tone.

The album was preceded by two singles; "drop dead" and "the cure." A video for a third single, "stupid song" was released alongside the actual album drop.

With the album only being out for roughly 24 hours, it's truly an impressive feat for such a young, talented artist and one that Olivia Rodrigo has rightfully earned.
