Beyond the Gates recently hosted a landmark crossover with the cast of The Young and the Restless, as iconic characters visited for a political rally ravaged by a tornado. Now, actress Daphnée Duplaix is reflecting on her reaction to learning that the crossover would take place and her experience filming the massive event.
In an exclusive interview with Parade, the daytime legend shared that when she heard the concept of the crossover, “It was absolutely amazing. It's such a great idea, especially for being such a new show.”
The actress acknowledged The Young and the Restless’ importance in the daytime landscape, as the number-one-rated soap opera celebrates its 53rd year on air.
“The fans are hardcore for them, and for them to come over and want to grace us with their presence? I thought it was a brilliant idea on CBS's part.”
Reflecting on filming the crossover, Duplaix added, “Of course, we had so much fun, and if you've been watching these characters for so long. I was fangirling, I have to say.”

Filming the crossover proved to be a daunting task for Duplaix: “I will say, for me, it was the hardest week that we have had to date.” The actress jokingly clarified she said to date “because I don't know what's around the corner.”
The actress continued, “It was intense. They went all out on the script, not just by bringing in The Young and the Restless, but also with the sets and everything that happens. It's exciting, and there were a lot of moving parts.”
With that said, the actress shared that filming the crossover was a lot of fun. “It is a lot of work, but we all really enjoy each other, and to have The Young and the Restless come in, and they just matched our energy, it was honestly amazing.”
The experience was so impactful that Duplaix shared a conversation she had with executive producer Sheila Ducksworth. “I remember Sheila, at the end, sent the core four a text, and she was like, ‘Thank you so much. The energy you had at 9am, you had at 9pm.’”
Duplaix added that it was very long days: “It was a whole week of getting to the studio at 6, we started shooting at 9, but hair and makeup take time, so it resulted in 12 to 14-hour days.”
She added that for the cast and crew to have the same energy at the start of the day as the end, “It was pretty intense, but awesome, and we did the best with it; we had a lot of fun.”
She jokingly added, “But by the end of the week? I was like, ‘I need a massage.’”
