The Charlatans announced some exciting news on Friday.
The UK-based indie rock group revealed on Instagram that Mercury Rev will be joining them for The Charlatans' two Southern California shows as their opening acts on Sept. 3 and Sept. 4 at Santa Ana's The Observatory and the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, respectively. The Dandy Warhols will also be performing.
The rest of the tour, which takes place across the United States in September, will not have a supporting act. The Charlatans will kick off the lineup of shows on Sept. 3, then finish their run at Brooklyn Steel in New York City on Sept. 26. They are also expected to make stops in San Diego, San Francisco, Portland, Vancouver, Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and more. The entire tour was originally announced in late April.
"We’re excited to announce @themercuryrev will join us in Santa Ana & Los Angeles as very special guests along with @thedandywarhols," the band wrote as their caption. "Get your tickets now from thecharlatans.net link in bio."
View this post on InstagramFormed in 1988 by Martin Blunt, Tim Burgess, Jon Brookes, Rob Collins, Jon Baker and Baz Ketley, The Charlatans are an English rock band with 13 studio albums, all of which charted in the Top 40 in the UK Albums Chart, with three reaching No. 1. Their top songs include "The Only One I Know" and "One to Another."
When The Charlatans announced their US tour to support their recent album, We Are Love, which was released last Halloween, they expressed their excitement about coming back to North America.
"We’re excited to announce we’re coming back to North America, 16 dates this September, including two shows in California with very special guests The Dandy Warhols & More TBA," they wrote in their caption.
The Dandy Warhols are an American psychedelic and alternative-rock band formed in Portland in 1994. The EDM group is best known for their hit, "Bohemian Like You," which was a part of their 2000 album, Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia. Consisting of members Zia McCabe, Courtney Taylor-Taylor, Peter Homström and Brent DeBoer, The Dandy Warhols were already announced as the opening acts for The Charlatans' Santa Ana and Los Angeles shows.

The second opening act, Mercury Rev, is an American rock band that was formed in 1989 in Buffalo, New York. The group achieved widespread popularity in 1998 following the release of their fourth album, Deserter's Songs.
When it comes to touring, Mercury Rev's Jonathan Donahie and Sean "Grasshopper" Mackowiak view it as deeply grounding. The band, which has been on the road supporting their most recent album, Born Horses, has spoken to multiple outlets about tour life, saying that it makes Donahie feel "wistful."
“We were just in Buffalo, and you see new skyscrapers – just as you might wherever you live,” said Donahue to Matter News in April 2025. "It's more that you’re seeing these glass and steel tombstones rising up over the grave of a place that might have been something sensitive to you 30 years ago, whether it was an old club you played, or an apartment you lived in at one time."
A fan who attended their Chicago show on April 22, 2025, wrote for Bearded Gentlemen Music, describing the venue and energy as "packed, steamy and electric."
"The shimmering melodies floated through the space like a final blessing, and the crowd stood frozen, eyes fixed on the stage, absorbing every last note. It was a moment of collective stillness, rare and beautiful," Oscar De Leon wrote in his concert review. "With decades behind them, Mercury Rev proved that their music still holds a rare kind of magic. It’s timeless, transportive, and utterly their own. This wasn’t just a concert. It was a reminder of the quiet power of a band that continues to evolve while staying true to its singular, dreamlike vision."
