Alabama softball ends its 30th season 56-9

Alabama softball ended its season after losing two in a row, 5-4 and 1-0, to Texas Tech at the Women’s College World Series semifinals. This was Alabama’s eighth semifinal appearance in program history and its 16th WCWS bid.

“Unfortunately, it didn’t go our way, but I told the team in the locker room I was very proud of everybody. They represented the school, themselves and our state so very well all year from August 20th to June 1st,” head coach Patrick Murphy said after the loss against Texas Tech. “I couldn’t have asked for a better group. I think you guys saw that they played with joy and love for each other and they were filled with mudita, and that’s exactly what I hope for.”

Team 30 walked away from the season 56-9 setting multiple program record highs and earning several SEC accolades.

Alabama’s Team 30 is tied for fourth place with 2021’s team, which went 52-9 for the least amount of losses in a season for the program.

Alabama opened its season at the Buzz Classic against Villanova, Georgia Tech and East Carolina, dominating across all five games in the series. The Crimson Tide pulled away from this series with 7 home runs from 7 different players, tying for the program record for most team home runs in a single game.

After smashing the season wide open during its first series, Alabama went on a quick 25-game win streak, with 12 of those wins being complete shutouts.

During Alabama’s undefeated period, it entered SEC play and swept Ole Miss 2-0 during Alabama’s first SEC series.

Alabama continued undefeated until its second SEC series of the season against Arkansas. The Crimson Tide secured the series but were outscored 14-9 in Game 2 to give Alabama its first loss of the season.

Brooke Wells ended the season with 24 home runs, uprooting Kaila Hunt’s 2012 record for the third most home runs in a single season for the program. Utility player Alexis Pupillo came in just under Wells with 20 home runs, earning her a spot at 4th place.

This was the first time the program has had two players in a single season acquire 20 or more home runs.

Despite taking its first loss of the season, Alabama continued its momentum, shutting out another 14 teams during the rest of the season.

Alabama’s pitching staff remained a consistent bright spot throughout the season with proven depth. Junior Jocelyn Briski pulled away from the season with a 1.41 earned run average and the title of SEC Pitcher of the Year. Briski was also chosen as D1 Softball Pitcher of the Week, Softball America Star Pitcher of the Week and SEC Pitcher of the Week three times. She started on the mound in 24 of her 31 appearances.

Briski broke her career record for strikeouts twice this season, first in February against Florida State when she struck out 9 and then again in March against Arkansas where she struck out 14.

Alabama’s pitching talent didn’t end with Briski, though. The Crimson Tide notched two perfect games this season. The first came from freshman Kaitlyn Pallozzi, who became the first freshman in program history to throw a perfect game.

The second came from a combination of Briski, Alea Johnson and Braya Hodges. Johnson made 11 appearances throughout the season, pitching in relief in most of her appearances. Hodges appeared in six games and notched only one loss across all six.

Alabama had another freshman pitcher up its sleeve as well. Vic Moten pitched in a total of 30 games this season, starting in 22 of those 30. Moten proved herself early on, beginning the season with a combined no-hitter with Hodges against Villanova.

Alabama’s success was backed up by a highly decorated coaching staff. This season marked head coach Patrick Murphy’s 28th season at the helm of the program and his 30th season with the team.

Alabama’s coaching staff was recognized as the 2026 ATEC/NFCA South Region Coaching Staff of the Year. This is the 11th time Alabama has received this recognition.
