The Plath family was presented to viewers in 2019 as living in a highly controlled environment where strict rules shaped nearly every aspect of daily life. "Lydia is exactly what they wanted her to be, and Zac [Wyse] is exactly the kind of man they wanted her to marry. It's the rest of the family who changed and moved the goal posts and decided they didn't want that anymore," wrote one follower.
A second fan penned, "It’s pretty incredible how quickly Kim and the older kids (except for Lydia) forget how they were raised. Kim and Barry programmed the kids, and it’s crazy how quickly they all walk it back after the divorce. Lydia is exactly how they raised her lol."
