Silo season 3 trailer teases dangerous twist for Juliette in major departure from books

Juliette has lost her memory. The silo is in mortal danger. And a flashback to the past is about to reveal the truth. It's time to prepare for Silo season 3!

A new trailer for the upcoming season has given us a taste of what to expect from the returning Apple TV sci-fi, which follows the inhabitants of an underground silo who have no idea why they're there, or what happened to the outside world.

The explosive new clip shows Rebecca Ferguson's Juliette settling back into the silo as its new mayor.

After being engulfed in fire during her experience in the airlock with Bernard (Tim Robbins) in the season 2 finale, Juliette has lost her memory.

But, in a deeply worrying turn of events, it now seems she's being told a new, false narrative by Camille Sims (Alexandria Riley), who seems to be taking on a much larger role this season.

And, although Juliette's memory appears to be returning bit by bit, Camille is convinced that if she remembers the truth, everyone will be in danger.

The trailer – which you can watch above – begins by showing the aftermath of the fire, with Knox (Shane McRae) and Shirley (Remmie Milner) racing to rescue Juliette. We hear Common's Robert Sims telling her: "You were in there for three minutes. Three minutes in a box of fire."

Then, the ominous voice that we only know as The Algorithm, speaking to Camille: "She's had no memories for three months – other than those you've given her."

To add to that, the silo is clearly in mortal danger, as a countdown begins and it's teased: "The amount of panic if people knew how much time we have left..."

Meanwhile, we also have our first look at Steve Zahn's popular returning character, Solo, after his fate was left uncertain at the end of season 2.

While the storyline around Juliette's memory is a major departure from Hugh Howey's Wool novels, the show is also set to honour the books with another thread, as we go back into the past to meet congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman) and journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick) – a storyline that was teased at the end of season 2.

"The truth lies in the past," the trailer teases, as we see glimpses of what led to the building of the siloes – a seemingly world-threatening event that forced everyone underground.

But, in the end, clearly Juliette will be crucial to uncovering it, with Sims telling her: "Juliette, whatever you're going to do, do it now."

The official synopsis for season 3 reads: "In the present, Juliette Nichols (Ferguson) survives her forced 'cleaning' but returns with memory loss as the silo recovers from rebellion and faces a dangerous new threat.

"Meanwhile, in the 'Before Times', journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick) and Congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman) uncover a conspiracy that pulls them into a chain of events with catastrophic, irreversible consequences."

Joining the series for the first time are a host of new cast members too, including Laura Innes, Jessica Brown Findlay, Morven Christie, Reed Birney and Matt Craven.
