SWPL winners Hearts appoint Andy Thomson as new head coach, replacing Eva Olid

Andy Thomson has been appointed head coach of Scottish Women Premier League champions Hearts, replacing Eva Olid.

Thomson, 55, leaves Rangers, where he had been assistant manager since early 2025.

The former Scotland women assistant replaces Eva Olid, who led Hearts to their first top-flight title success in her final match in charge. The club had previously announced the Spaniard would be moving on at the end of the season.

As a player, Thomson played as a forward for Queen of the South, Partick Thistle, Falkirk, Stenhousemuir and four English clubs.

He moved into coaching with the University of Strathclyde men’s team and has worked with Caledonian Braves and University of Stirling.

He assisted Shelley Kerr during the latter’s spell in charge of Scotland women and he later worked as football development manager at Motherwell.

Hearts begin the defence of their SWPL title in mid-August.
