With Esteban Ocon’s future hanging in the balance and whispers of internal friction refusing to disappear, the Haas team principal has now revealed when the American outfit expects to make a call on its 2027 driver line-up.
And judging by his reaction to the speculation swirling around Ocon, Komatsu is already fed up with the circus.
Haas heads into a potentially explosive driver market with both Ocon and rookie Ollie Bearman approaching the ends of their current deals. After a relatively quiet build-up to Formula 1’s new regulation era, the next contract cycle is expected to unleash total chaos across the grid.

“Around now time, like May, June, July,” he said when asked about a timeline on the decision. “I think everybody’s looking at next year’s drivers. It’s not just us, everyone.”
That alone was enough to crank up speculation around Ocon’s future. But things escalated quickly when Komatsu was pushed on what decision he would make if forced to choose immediately.

“I think a question like this is going to create some s***, right?,” Komatsu fired back. “Because then people are going to take my word and say, ‘oh, Ayao said if you decide now, you're going to continue with Esteban, not continue with Esteban’.
“They take it completely out of context, so I'm not going to answer that question.”

Behind the scenes, Haas suddenly has options – and plenty of them. If the team decides Ocon’s experiment has failed to deliver, reserve driver Jack Doohan is waiting in the wings.
But former Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda has also emerged as a possible candidate – according to the rumor mill, particularly given Haas’ growing ties with Toyota and its increasing Japanese influence.
For now, Komatsu is refusing to show his hand publicly. But his timeline makes one thing clear: the clock is ticking, and the decision on Ocon’s future may arrive far sooner than expected.
