Cadillac looking to build on Miami momentum in Montreal

Cadillac arrives in Montreal this weekend carrying more than just fresh optimism – the American outfit is bringing belief.

After unveiling a substantial upgrade package for its MAC-26 in Miami, the team now heads to the Canadian Grand Prix determined to turn encouraging signs into tangible progress on one of Formula 1’s most unforgiving circuits.

The results in Florida may not have transformed the standings overnight, but inside the Cadillac garage, there was a clear sense that the team had taken an important step forward.

Team Principal Graeme Lowdon was full of confidence when reflecting on the momentum generated in Miami.

“The team performed really well in Miami,” the Briton said, speaking in Cadillac’s Montreal preview.

“We introduced our first major upgrade package, which resulted in a notable increase in performance, and once again, both cars finished in the Sprint and the Grand Prix, which was a great result.

"The team also executed two pit stops that were among the top 10 fastest of the weekend, showing that, from an operational standpoint, we are on a strong upward trajectory.

"The goal in Montreal, which is a very different circuit from Miami, is to build on that momentum and keep making such progress," Lowdon concluded.

    Miami gains fuel Cadillac optimism

While both Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas finished a lap down in Miami, the raw pace improvement from the upgraded MAC-26 offered the clearest indication yet that Cadillac’s development program is beginning to click into gear.

Perez, in particular, left the Miami paddock encouraged by what the team had unlocked.

"Miami was a very enjoyable weekend," Perez added. "We had improved pace from the start, and we showed our ability to bring major upgrades that delivered on track.

"This is really encouraging. Now it's about refining what we have and extracting the real potential in all elements. There were definite flashes of real progress, and we need to put it all together at the same time.

"If we can do this, I believe we'll be closer to the pack in front. I can't wait to get on track.”

Those “flashes” are exactly what Cadillac hopes to stitch together in Montreal, where the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve presents a dramatically different challenge compared to Miami’s smoother, flowing layout.

    Montreal presents a new test

With tight walls, heavy braking zones and little margin for error, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is expected to provide a sterner examination of Cadillac’s latest package – especially under the pressure of the Sprint format.

Like Lowdon, Valtteri Bottas, however, believes the team is arriving with genuine momentum.

"While our race didn't go entirely to plan in Miami, we clearly made a big step forward. We showed good potential, which is really positive,” said the Finn.

"This weekend will be a new challenge for us as the track is very technical, the walls are very close, and we will have to get up to speed quickly because of the Sprint format.

"But Montreal is a venue that I really enjoy and I've performed well at in the past—I still enjoy seeing my name as the lap record holder! I'm looking forward to continuing our progress," Bottas concluded.

For Cadillac, the objective this weekend is not necessarily dramatic headlines or shock podium contention.

Instead, the focus is on proof that Miami was not a one-off, and on validation that the MAC-26 upgrade path is working, and proof that the ambitious American squad is steadily edging closer to the midfield fight.

And as Formula 1 heads into one of its most atmospheric weekends of the season, Cadillac suddenly looks like a team beginning to gather real momentum.
