Fans of The Testaments have been handed a major update ahead of the show’s season 1 finale.
Disney+ has confirmed that the Hulu Original drama, which serves as the next chapter in the world of The Handmaid’s Tale, has been renewed for a second season.
The announcement comes before the first season wraps up on Wednesday 27 May, with season 1 currently streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
Based on Margaret Atwood’s Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name, The Testaments shifts focus to a new generation growing up under the brutal rule of Gilead.

There, obedience is enforced with cruelty and religious justification – but the girls’ bond soon becomes the catalyst for events that could reshape their past, present and future.
The first season also featured a major surprise for fans of The Handmaid’s Tale, with Elisabeth Moss returning in a guest appearance as June Osborne.
Disney+ also confirmed that the series has been performing strongly since launch, with The Testaments having amassed more than 45 million hours streamed globally across Hulu and Disney+ to date.
The streamer said the show has been growing week on week, with views for episode 8 up 76 per cent from the premiere, based on one-day viewing figures.
The Testaments has also been warmly received by critics, currently sitting at 88 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.
The series is created by showrunner and executive producer Bruce Miller, with executive producer Mike Barker directing the first three episodes of season 1, as well as next week's finale.
