For over five years, author Becca Fitzpatrick worked on her manuscript that she began after taking an online writing class. After several rejections and multiple rewrites, she finally finished what would become the first novel in her series, Hush, Hush. The 2009 novel was a New York Times bestseller, and fans have been clamoring for a film adaptation, even going so far as to list it as number two on "Books That Should Be Made Into Movies" on Goodreads.
Appealing to fans of books and stories like Twilight, fans of Hush, Hush love it for its "refreshing and intriguing heroine" and "hot bad boys, troubled girls, and forbidden romance."
Hush, Hush follows protagonist Nora Grey, a 16-year-old sophomore living in Coldwater, Maine following the murder of her father. After sitting next to her mysterious classmate, Patch Cipriano, in biology, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to him. Unexplainable, horrifying events begin to follow Nora, and she eventually uncovers that Patch is actually a fallen angel and Nora is now engulfed in an ancient, supernatural war. The scariest part is in choosing sides, Nora may lose her life if she makes the wrong call.
Hush, Hush was the first book in what became a four book series. While the sequels were met with mixed reviews, Hush, Hush was received positively from critics.
Rights for a film adaptation were initially optioned in 2012, but two years later Fitzpatrick said she didn't believe it was the right time for a film and did not renew the contract. In 2018, it was announced the movie moved to BCDF Pictures with Liana Liberato cast as Nora and Wolfgang Novogratz as Patch. Then in 2021, Fitzgerald announced Hush, Hush had been greenlit by SpringHill Company and Genius Entertainment Partner. This was the last update about a movie adaptation.
It's clear fans of the series want some sort of screen adaptation of the fallen angel forbidden romance saga. Only time will tell if it actually comes to fruition.
