Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Duru Turkmen has announced her verbal commitment to study and swim at Kenyon College for the next four years. Turkmen resides in Istanbul, Turkey, where she trains with the city’s elite Fenerbahçe Sports Club. Turkmen announced her commitment to SwimSwam with this message:
“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Kenyon College!! Huge thanks to my family, friends and coaches for always supporting me along the way. A special thanks to Coach Kosuke and Coach Jess for giving me this amazing opportunity. Go Owls!“
Training at Fenerbahçe means that Turkmen is no stranger to the high level of competition that the NCAA will bring. Earlier this month, Turkmen showed her grit at Turkey’s national selection meet, where she B-finaled in the 100 LCM free with a season best of 59.97.
The future Owl has shown a consistency in peaking when it counts, particularly in her country’s National Team Selection meets. In the 2024 selection meet, she achieved her 100 free lifetime best of 59.60, while her 50 free best of 27.41 comes from the 2023 edition of the Selection. Both of these swims were turned in at finals.
Turkmen is also no stranger to the short course realm, having swum at national level meets. To get an idea of what she could look like in SCY, here are her converted bests.
Turkmen’s Best LCM Times (SCY conversion):
50 free – 27.41 (23.97) 100 free – 59.60 (52.25) 200 free – 2:08.64 (1:52.99)Her bread-and-butter events, the 50-200 freestyles, line up perfectly with what NCAA teams like Kenyon value highly for relay potential. The Lady Owls, who placed third at the 2026 NCAA DIII Champions, could use Turkmen in their A relays if she makes only small time improvements from her converted bests. She would rank 5th in the 200 free, 7th in the 100 free, and 8th in the 50 free among Kenyon women in the 2025-2026. To get an invitation to the big dance, B cuts for 2026 stood at 23.53/51.35/1:52.06, plausible times for Turkmen to approach after getting accustomed to yards.
Joining Turkmen in the class of 2030 Owls are at least three other public commits. Bulgarian butterflier Mariyana Shalamanova is one such future teammate, as are domestic recruits Gennie Matanoski and Isla George.
