Addie Farrier, 10, Clearwater Aquatic Team (FL): Farrier set personal best times across the board at the SLAC 11th Annual Hohne Memorial Invitational (LCM) two weeks ago in Clermont, Fla., highlighted by a pair of standout swims in the butterfly events. The 10-year-old Clearwater Aquatic team product put up a time of 30.91 in the 50 fly, crushing her previous best of 33.58 and moving into 11th all-time in the girls’ 10 & under age group. She dropped nearly 10 seconds in the 100 fly, touching in 1:10.64 to rank 28th all-time among 10 & under girls. She also cracked the top 100 all-time in the 50 back (34.73), ranking 53rd, and the 50 free (29.82), tying for 95th. Farrier also set best times in the 100 free (1:04.84), 100 back (1:15.59), 50 breast (42.16) and 100 breast (1:29.36).
David Li, 10, Brea Aquatics (CA): Li went four-for-four in best times at the MVN May BB LCM Age Group meet in Mission Viejo, headlined by a blistering swim in the 100 fly. After breaking 1:10 for the first time in April, clocking 1:09.86, Li chipped two more one-hundredths off his PB in Mission Viejo, registering a time of 1:09.84 to rank 27th all-time in the boys’ 10 & under age group. He also dropped three seconds in the 200 IM, touching in 2:39.18 to rank 100th all-time among 10 & under boys, and added best times in the 50 breast (41.06) and 100 breast (1:29.87).
Lauren Hackett, 12, Tennessee Aquatics (SE): Hackett set a pair of best times while competing at last week’s Fort Lauderdale Open (LCM) alongside some of the best swimmers in the world, showing off her breaststroke abilities. The 12-year-old out of Tennessee Aquatics clocked 1:16.25 in the 100 breast, lowering her four-day-old best time of 1:17.29 to rank #1 in the country this season among 11-12 girls by more than three seconds. On the way to that 100 breast PB, Hackett went under her 50 breast best time in 36.40, and then the following day, dipped under that in 36.27 in the individual race, ranking her 3rd this season in the 11-12 age group. At the SE BAY ARENA Long Course Invitational in Chattanooga the previous weekend, she set best times across the board in the 200 free (2:18.39), 100 fly (1:08.54), 200 IM (2:30.11) and the 100 breast mark that she re-lowered in Fort Lauderdale. Her swim in the 200 IM ranks 2nd this season in the 11-12 age group.
Sawyer Hansen, 14, Saint Petersburg Aquatics (FL): Hansen set three massive best times in the distance freestyle events in Fort Lauderdale, cracking the top 30 all-time in the boys’ 13-15 age group. Hansen’s top finish came in the 1500 free, where the 14-year-old dropped more than 11 seconds to clock 15:57.03, ranking him 24th all-time among 13-14 boys. He also dropped seven seconds in the 800 free, moving into 21st all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group, and went 4:02.99 in the 400 free (after setting a best time of 4:03.26 in the prelims) to rank 30th all-time. The Saint Petersburg Aquatics product came into the season with respective personal bests of 4:09.16, 8:28.33 and 16:08.65 in the 400, 800 and 1500 free, and had lowered his 800 free PB to 8:28.12 a few weeks prior to Fort Lauderdale.
Penelope Lopez-Casula, 15, Eagle Aquatics (FG): Also competing in Fort Lauderdale, Lopez-Casula rocketed up the all-time rankings in the girls’ 13-14 age group after setting a pair of best times in the sprint free events. The Eagle Aquatics member, who has notably aged up and turned 15 in the days since the meet, broke 57 for the first time in the long course 100 free in the prelims, clocking 56.74, and then went sub-56 in the final, touching in 55.88. That swim ranks her 10th all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group, after her previous PB of 57.11 had her ranked in a tie for 68th. Two days later, she put up a time of 25.83 in the final of the 50 free, lowering her previous best of 26.11 to move into a tie for 17th all-time in the 13-14 age group.
Aaron Tong, 13, Shawmut Aquatic Club (NE): Tong lit it up at the New England CS Spring Fling last weekend in Providence, winning all 11 events he raced and setting best times in every one of them. The Shawmut Aquatic Club member notably cracked the top 100 all-time in the boys’ 11-12 age group in three races, moving into a tie for 51st in the 50 free (26.04), 57th in the 50 fly (28.07) and 73rd in the 200 IM (2:20.89). In the 11-12 age group this season, he currently ranks 1st in the 100 free (57.82), 50 fly and 200 IM, sits 2nd in the 50 free, 200 free (2:05.67), 50 back (30.69) and 100 fly (1:03.89), and ranks 3rd in the 100 back (1:07.17). On top of that, he ranks 5th this season in the 400 free (4:33.38) and 6th in the 200 back (2:28.59), showing an incredible level of versatility and durability over a three-day meet. He’s aged up over the last few days and is now 13.
