UNC beat South Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday at the Chewning Tennis Center to advance to the tournament’s Super Regional round. It’s the 16th consecutive tournament in which the Tar Heels have advanced to the Super Regionals.

UNC dominated in doubles, dropping just one game combined between courts No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead into the singles portion of the match. In singles, Anna Frey made quick work of South Carolina’s Jane Dunyon on No. 5, winning 6-1, 6-1 to UNC’s second point.
Reese Brantmeier, playing on No. 1, defeated South Carolina’s Kaitlyn Carnicella 6-2, 6-3 to put the Tar Heels on the doorstep of the next round. Thea Rabman would punch UNC’s ticket soon after, winning 6-3, 6-2 on No. 6 for the clinching point. The Tar Heels had won the opening set on each of the three singles courts whose matches were left unfinished.
UNC, the No. 5 overall seed in the field, will host Super Regional action at the Chewning Tennis Center next weekend regardless of opponent. The Tar Heels will face either Florida or No. 12 overall seed Michigan, who will face off in Ann Arbor Sunday afternoon. UNC is looking to improve upon a 2025 NCAA Tournament run which saw the Tar Heels advance to the national semifinals before losing to eventual champions Georgia.
