Winter Juniors qualifier Elliott Drottar has announced his commitment to swim for the University of California-Santa Cruz beginning in the fall of 2026. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:

I am proud to announce my athletic and academic commitment to the University of California, Santa Cruz! Thank you, Coach Crawford and Coach Hailey, for the opportunity. I want to give a huge thanks to my family for their constant support and for being at every meet, no matter the distance. I’m grateful to my club team Coach Jeff, my high school swim mates, and my CCAT teammates for pushing me and supporting me over the past nine years. I’m looking forward to the next four years. Go Slugs!

A native of Chatsworth, CA, Drottar is currently wrapping up his senior year at Oak Park High School, where he was a member of the Eagles’ varsity swimming and diving team during his first two years. He now trains year-round with CCAT Swimming, where he specializes in sprint freestyle.

Drottar qualified for Winter Juniors – East for the first time this past season, where he finished 100th in the 200 free (1:41.84), 105th in the 50 free (21.08), and 128th in the 100 free (46.46). His 50 free was a best time by two tenths, while he was one one-hundredth off his 100 free personal best and five one-hundredths shy in the 200, both of which were set at a local club meet a month prior.

He traveled to Speedo Sectionals – Walnut a week later and had the best meet of his season. He clocked personal bests in all three of his top events, touching 10th in the 50 free (20.68), 15th in the 100 free (46.09), and 27th in the 200 free (1:41.37), continuing a promising progression that saw him drop half a second in the 50 free, nearly a full second in the 100 free, and two and a half seconds in the 200 free over the past year.

A Division III program, UC-Santa Cruz competes in the Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference, with the men’s team winning their second straight title with a meet record 1917.5 points this past season. Based on the results, Drottar’s personal bests would have made the ‘A’ final in the 50 and 200 free and the ‘B’ final in the 100 free, setting him up to be a key contributor right from the start.

On the team’s projected 2026–27 depth chart, Drottar is slated to rank third in the 200 free, fourth in the 50 free, and sixth in the 100 free, bringing some added depth to a roster that returns all four of its ‘A’ finalists in the 50 free, three of four in the 100 free, and two of three in the 200 free. With continued improvement, he could push for a spot on relay teams that helped UC Santa Cruz win four of five events at the 2026 conference championships.

Currently set to join Drottar in Santa Cruz in the fall are fellow freestylers Kaito James (21.17/44.78/1:39.12) and Lucas Wooldridge (20.84/46.65), who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
