A Pittsboro man faces a series of identity theft charges stemming back to an investigation from December, according to authorities.
A release from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday said its investigators have taken out felony charges on 52-year-old Troy Sanders Passmore, alleging that Passmore stole money from a victim’s checking account. Chatham County Sheriff’s investigators received a report on Dec. 5 about fraudulent withdrawals and the investigation led to identifying Passmore as the person who took the victim’s personal identification info and removed funds without their approval or knowledge.
The investigation then revealed Passmore used the victim’s name to cash two fraudulent checks at a different bank, according to Tuesday’s alert.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said as of Tuesday afternoon, Passmore has not yet been served on the three felony counts of identity theft and one felony count of obtaining property by false pretenses. Once served, the local magistrate will create a bond and initial court dates for the Pete Roberson Road resident.
