Sunrisers Hyderabad need to act fast, and arrest the slip in form — the side has already lost three matches and have slipped to 7th position, and now take on Rajasthan Royals, the top-ranked side, on Monday. Bowling is a very big issue for them, as usual, in the absence of Pat Cummins and some radical changes in the bowling line up can only help them.
Harshal Patel has been expensive, Eshan Malinga not that great, Jaydev Unadkat has bowled well in patches, and a quality spinner is not in sight for them. In short, nothing more can go wrong for them. Even scores in excess of 220 are not safe, and since 2023, they are the worst defending side, losing 15 such encounter.
Nonetheless, Insidesport takes a look at the predicted SRH XI for RR match.
Can’t mess with the batting order
You don’t fix, what’s not broken. Someone said this for SRH batting, and it is 100% true. Abhishek Sharma has 129 runs in 4 matches, Travis Head has 102, Klaasen has 184, Ishan Kishan 122, and Nitish Kumar Reddy 96. They have a knack of scoring 200, and if their much-famed batting line-up ends up below 200, it is a failed performance.
That is where their strength really lies, but perhaps what is hurting them is, that expectation of reaching the 300-run mark. In their last game too, they were excellent initially, where Head and Abhishek added 120 in 8 overs, but lost way from there to score only 219. PBKS crossed the finish line with 9 balls to spare.
Pick better overseas players
There is no Cummins for now, so he should be replaced by a bowler/all-rounder who has some decent international experience. That is where Eshan Malinga has failed. So, in his place, it is time now to get Brydon Carse. In 14 T20Is for England, he has picked up 20 wickets, at an average of 20.
Secondly, Liam Livingstone should be there to take care of at least 2-3 overs of leg spin. Primarily a batter, he can be a very decent leg-spinner. In 63 T20Is for England, he has picked up 33 wicket, where his economy has been only 8.72. PICK HIM AS A BOWLING OPTION.
Make big changes in fast-bowling departement
SRH pacers have been poor. Unadkat has 4 wickets at an economy of 10.90. NKR is placed at 10 rpo. David Payne at 14.00; so why not change the bowling attack altogether. At least the ones on the bench will have a greater motivation to do better. Bihar’s Sakib Hussain can really bowl quick. Then there is Shivam Mavi also, who can bowl quick, be economical and pick up wickets as well. If he is fit, he should be in the XI.
Predicted SRH playing XI
Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan(w/c), Heinrich Klaasen, Aniket Verma, Salil Arora, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Liam Livingstone, Shivam Mavi, Brydon Carse, Sakib Hussain.
