Day 80 of the Chicago Bears offseason. After a discussion with my therapist, my weekend to-do list no includes a trip to the bookstore for a book I haven’t read since high school that has a movie adaptation that I am planning to see in a week. Wish me luck on my endeavors!
Oh, I bet the comments and replies here will be a gold mine:What if QB Caleb Williams turned out to be Russell Wilson? Would #Bears fans be OK with that? t.co/Ib1M2dEaAw

For what it’s worth, the Caleb Williams-Russell Wilson comp doesn’t come out of nowhere. Tennessee Titans Head Coach Robert Saleh makes the connection in Finley’s story. Given the quotes Finley gets from Saleh, I can see where he is coming from with the comparison. That is an elite pull from Finley, especially since Saleh got a good look at Williams in 2024 (while working as a consultant with the Green Bay Packers) and in 2025 (as the defensive coordinator of a 49ers team that allowed Chicago’s QB1 to post 330 passing yards, throw two touchdowns, and post a 100.3 passer rating on Sunday Night Foootball in Week 17 last season). © Kyle Terada-Imagn Images Kevin Fishbain’s annual Bears roster tiers story at The Athletic is always a must-read for me. And I’m not sure that anything captures the evolution of Chicago’s football team like seeing the number of “foundational players” (a.k.a. starters who will be around through at least 2027, with the potential for a longer stay) grow to what it is today. Quarterback Caleb Williams headlines this list, but it also includes three offensive linemen, three pass catvhers, and two defensive backs. This team having so many “foundational” pieces on the offensive side of the ball isn’t something I am accustomed to, but it is something I love seeing. Montez Sweat is the only defensive lineman, while free-agent addition Devin Bush is the only linebacker. It would be nice to see the Bears add more foundational pieces in the draft who can make next year’s list. Maybe another defensive lineman. Possibly an offensive tackle. Maybe a running back, too.BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | BlueSky
In his mailbag at the Chicago Tribune, Brad Biggs answers a question about the chances of the Bears trading for New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. This part of the answer (bold emphasis mine) stood out to me:The Bears are right up against the salary cap right now. Sure, they could clear the space needed to add a player like Lawrence if they want, but I kind of doubt they would make something happen here. Harbaugh has to want to keep Lawrence, right? The new coach has all the juice in New York. The Bears haven’t made a big move this offseason beyond the signing of safety Coby Brant, and I’m skeptical that trading premium draft capital for a defensive tackle going into Year 8 is a play they want to make right now.
Dexter Lawrence plays a position of need for the Bears and has performed at a high level. The fit is natural and seemingly perfect. But I see why Biggs has his doubts and concerns. I’d also raise yellow flags about Giants Head Coach John Harbaugh parting ways with a team camptain just months into his new gig. ESPN’s Jamison Hensley writes about the Baltimore Ravens saying Lamar Jackson is excited to work with new Offensive Coordinator Declan Doyle. And after seeing what Doyle did (in conjunction with Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson) with Caleb Williams last year, I fully understand why Lamar is ready to get to work with the new coaching staff. Things I learned during my daily morning reading: Luther Vandross’ iconic “One Shining Moment” was almost a Super Bowl song. I can’t imagine March Madness without that song. It wouldn’t be the same. And I definitely can’t hear that song and think about football. I guess this should be a reminder that things happen for a reason. Baseball is better when the Cubs win … on getaway day … before an off day … to secure a series victory.MORE BEARS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
