Kendra Duggar’s resolve has been tested after her husband, Joseph Duggar, was arrested on child molestation charges — but the “hardest” pill for her to swallow, she says, is losing her kids after her own arrest.
“I think Friday has probably been my hardest day. But that’s crazy to say, because Wednesday was crazy hard,” Kendra, 27, told Joseph, 31, on a phone call with her husband during his prison stay, obtained by Us Weekly on Wednesday, April 8, from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Kendra was seemingly referring to her Friday, March 20, arrest for allegedly endangering the welfare of a minor, and Joseph’s Wednesday, March 18, arrest for allegedly sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl in 2020.
She noted that the Friday incident was the toughest for her to stomach, because it resulted in her being separated from her four children. (The pair share sons Garrett and Justus and daughters Addison and Brooklyn.)

“When you then take my babies from me, they were who I was just gonna pour my life into during this time,” Kendra told her husband, who chimed in by calling their kids her “purpose” in life.
She agreed, saying, “It still is.” Kendra, who married Joseph in 2017, noted that she couldn’t believe her babies had to be taken away while authorities investigated her home life.
“I was like, how is this happening? And I still don’t believe it. I don’t even think it’s fully real to me,” Kendra explained on the call. “For one, it feels weird to not have them, but then it’s also like, ‘Oh, this is gonna go away next week,’ you know.”
A source previously told Us that Kendra’s arrest was not connected to Joseph’s molestation case.

The insider said after Joseph’s charge authorities “automatically do a home study,” at which point they allegedly found that there were “two rooms where the lock of the doorknob was on the outside inside of inside.” She was arrested and the kids were taken away because she allegedly “wrongly detains her kids,” per the source.
Us confirmed on March 18 that Joseph was arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious behavior involving molestation of a victim less than 12 years old and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 years or older.
After being transferred from an Arkansas jail to a Florida prison, Joseph pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was released from jail on March 31 after posting $600,000 bail.
In addition to the molestation case, Joseph and Kendra were both charged last month with four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of false imprisonment following her arrest and subsequent release.

Courtesy of Joseph and Kendra Duggar/InstagramPrior to his release — and reunion with Kendra on Wednesday — Joseph praised his wife for “doing amazing” on their recorded phone call. He claimed on the jail call obtained by Us that “everyone I’ve heard from” has told him she is handling the situation with grace.
“It’s a little miracle. Anyone that says that, I know it’s not me, because, like I said, I don’t know how I’m standing on two feet after everything I’ve been through,” Kendra confessed on the call. “And it’s like Mama keeps saying, ‘This is just the grace of God being poured out on you.’ And she’s like, ‘You’re so strong, and you’re gonna make it.’ It’s been crazy.”
Kendra revealed that looking back on both of their arrests, she doesn’t “know how I did that.”

“It must be God pouring out his grace on me, and it’s just enough grace for each day, [that] is what they told me,” she continued. “Sometimes I start looking into the future and I get so overwhelmed, and I just don’t know what it holds. But I’m like, everyone keeps telling me, ‘You just take in one step right now. You’re just doing one day.’”
Joseph told Kendra that was how he was handling all the unknowns as well. “I’m just not thinking about what the future could be, or any of that. I’m just focusing on, you know what I’m supposed to be here today,” he said.
Kendra agreed, telling her husband that she still has “the emotions” off all their recent “ups and downs” but she knew it was part of the journey.
