The hit 2009 Pixar feature film, UP, is finally getting its first-ever theme park attraction.
Developed by Walt Disney Imagineering and manufactured by Zamperla Group, DLP Works recently revealed that a family-friendly ride based on Carl and Ellie’s house will be coming to Disney Adventure World in Disneyland Paris.
According to DLP Works, the UP ride will have a queue heavily themed around the film “and the spirit of adventure.” It will be divided into four narrative zones, from Carl and Ellie’s memories to Carl’s balloons leading to the attraction.
The ride will feature 64 seats across 48 swing positions, which DLP Works suggests will likely mean 32 single seats and 16 double.
The early concept photos of the ride look similar to the swing ride Silly Symphony Swings at California Adventure Park in Anaheim. This design has been met with mixed reactions from fans.
“It’s a chair swing ride,” one fan commented on Facebook. “It’s hardly groundbreaking or exciting.”
Another fan called the ride a missed opportunity, commenting that “a balloon themed ride is obvious. Could have been amazing.”
However, others have expressed their excitement for the ride, with one fan on Facebook saying, “I love the retro feel of this, it just feels soooo Carl & Ellie.”
Inspired by Tivoli Gardens, an amusement park in Copenhagen, the new attraction will include a mix of Art Nouveau and early aviation aesthetics. DLP Works posted a list of its architectural features:
“Curved structures & decorative metalwork,
Industrial references inspired by vintage aircraft & zeppelins (nod to the film),
Balloon motifs integrated into the entrance & exit structures,
Colorful architecture inspired by Carl’s balloons,
Stained glass elements producing “warm lighting” effects.”
Additionally, the ride will have a “musical atmosphere inspired by fairground organs.” The rotating canopy of the ride will gradually reveal a mural, which will be designed in collaboration with Pixar Studios.
On March 29, Disney Adventure Park opened its newest experience, World of Frozen. Featuring the Arendelle castle and character encounters, this new immersive world transports visitors to the 2013 movie. Check out a first look at the land from Good Morning America on YouTube.
While an opening date has not yet been announced for the UP attraction, early concept photos can be seen here:
