The remarks came on Sunday, April 5, 2026, during a meeting of the Permanent Committee for the Regulation of Nile River Revenues, chaired by the minister and attended by senior ministry officials and representatives of the National Water Research Center, to review Nile inflows, the river’s hydrological status, water volumes reaching Lake Nasser, High Dam operating procedures, water levels and discharge rates, and management measures ahead of the upcoming peak water demand period.
Sewilam said the ministry had taken early precautionary and operational measures in response to recent weather fluctuations and heavy rainfall and floods, based on real-time monitoring and rainfall forecasts.
He added that as weather conditions evolved, the ministry continuously assessed the water situation and reviewed the impact of these developments on water resource management, enabling timely and precise decisions that maximized the use of rainfall and floodwaters, mitigated potential negative effects, and ensured water needs were met across all sectors while maintaining system stability and supporting development nationwide.
The committee also reviewed the status of water allocations for various sectors and assessed the effectiveness of measures implemented to address the recent wave of rainfall and floods, ensuring the stability of the water management system and optimal use of available water resources.
